Sajid Javid has retained his position as part of Prime Minister’s Theresa May’s cabinet reshuffle with his job title now secretary for housing, communities and local government.
May has added housing to the department name. Javid in the past has called for greater regulation within the house building sector and has also focused on abuses of leasehold properties.
He has also heavily pushed for the introduction of fees and regulation for letting agents.
Following the announcement, housing secretary Sajid Javid said: “Building the homes our country needs is an absolute priority for this government and so I’m delighted the Prime Minister has asked me to serve in this role.
“The name change for the department reflects this government’s renewed focus to deliver more homes and build strong communities across England.”
