Skipton Building Society for Intermediaries

Skipton came away from the 2020 Money Age awards with three titles under its belt including Building Society of the Year, First-time Buyer Mortgage Lender of the Year and Diversity Initiative of the Year. Part of that success could be attributed to what underpins their ‘Making Things Easier for You’ initiative.

Making Things Easier for You underpins the ways Skipton supports intermediaries. And the initiatives that contributed to its award success included ways to help self-employed contractors and first-time buyers, shared ownership and ways to make its service more accessible.

Building Society of the Year
Skipton’s product range has been designed to give clients more choice when it comes to shared ownership. Clients could get up to 85% LTV on shared ownership mortgages for new build houses and flats with Skipton. There’s also an increased procuration fee of 0.45% for all new shared ownership business, in recognition of the extra work that goes into submitting those applications.

Self-employed is a growing segment and Skipton’s criteria has allowed it to help more clients. Download Skipton’s guide to see how it could help you.

First-time Buyer Mortgage Lender of the Year
Skipton offers a range of products for first-time buyers, which you can see here. They also offer a Help to Buy product range and accepts gifted deposits.

Extra flexibility is another feature designed to help first-time buyers, with a 9+3-month time limit on mortgage offers for new build flat and house applications, along with simplified lending criteria for non-standard flats. See Skipton’s A-Z of lending criteria here.

An online DIP uses a soft credit search – the hard credit search only occurs at full mortgage application stage. Download Skipton’s first-time buyer guides here for England, Wales and Scotland.

The judges were impressed with “Skipton’s flexibility and affordability around products, as well its innovative educational work.”.
