CWP acquires two Scottish financial planning firms

Financial planning firms, Cairn Independent, headquartered in Fife, and Glasgow-based JRW, have joined Clifton Wealth Partnership (CWP).

The move comes as the Bristol-based financial planning and wealth management business looks to expand into Scotland.

Both Cairn and JRW will work to maintain and grow CWP’s Scottish client base, with the pair adding close to £150m in assets under management (AuM) to the firm.

CWP completed the acquisitions of 10 financial planning businesses during 2025, adding a total of £721m AuM and 26 team members over the year. The latest partnerships take CWP’s AuM to over £3.5bn and over 13,000 clients.

As part of the move, Cairn’s operations director, Laura Young, will also take on a new expanded role as regional financial planning support manager at CWP. JWR will continue to be headed up by director, Ian Walsh.

Retiring director at Cairn, Robert Young, said: "Following our own strategic review, we knew that becoming part of a larger organisation would best support our long-term goals. We considered a number of options but it was CWP’s commitment to maintaining continuity for our clients and staff which best aligned with our culture and values.

"CWP’s management expertise, combined with the strong foundations already in place at Cairn, will support the continued development of our client relationships within the Scottish marketplace."

Managing director at CWP, Anthony Carty, added: "Robert and Laura have nurtured a fantastic business and team culture at Cairn. And at JRW, you can just tell by the way Ian talks about his client relationships that he has a wealth of experience with them, as well as great knowledge of the local market in Central Scotland.

"These are exactly the type of advice firms we want to support so they can continue their good work with local clients. We’re privileged to be part of the next chapter for both businesses and would like to wish Robert and Ian all the very best when they retire.

"Having Laura’s expertise on board as part of the wider Clifton team will be very exciting too, as we look to do more work with the many great financial planning firms across Scotland."
