News in brief - 23 September 2025

Butterfield Mortgages has appointed Kiefer Rendall as its new client relationship officer, while Ruby Bastick has joined as front of house intern. Rendall began his career in financial services at HSBC in 2017, starting as a temporary agent for the small business banking team in Leicester. In 2018, he became a permanent member of staff as a business banking risk analyst, where he was responsible for mitigating finance crime risk, processing applications and fulfilling due diligence requirements. Bastick joins Butterfield through its apprenticeship scheme with Simply Academy. She will be working towards her CeMAP qualification while also providing to support to colleagues and clients.

Oliver Slimm has been appointed as head of credit risk and lending strategy at Hanley Economic Building Society. He brings over a decade of mutual and specialist lending sector experience, having spent eight years at Dudley Building Society as head of credit risk and underwriting, followed by three years at more2life as credit strategist. In his new role, Slimm will be responsible for shaping and overseeing the society’s credit risk framework, ensuring that lending strategies remain sustainable, responsible and aligned with members’ needs.

Target Group has strengthened its risk and compliance management team by appointing Jennifer Read as its new head of risk. Read has more than 20 years of experience in operational risk and governance, working across financial services and fintech in banking and markets, savings and asset management. She has held roles at firms including Barclaycard, Royal London, RBS and Goldman Sachs. In her new role, Read will lead Target’s second line risk team, working with chief risk officer, Jonathan Hole, and the wider team to develop, maintain and enhance risk management and adherence to governance across the business.
