Three building societies join IMLA

The Intermediary Mortgage Lenders Association (IMLA) has announced that three building societies have joined as new members.

Saffron Building Society, Melton Building Society and the Cumberland Building Society have become the latest members to join the trade body.

The Cumberland offers mortgages, savings, and current accounts, as well as residential and commercial mortgages across the UK, with the majority of its lending to those in North West England and South West Scotland.

Saffron Building Society, a mutual society, serves the community in Essex, Hertfordshire and Sussex, provides a range of residential and buy-to-let (BTL) products, while Melton Building Society serves over 40,000 members in the Leicestershire, Rutland and Lincolnshire area with mortgage, insurance and savings services.

The addition of the three societies takes IMLA’s has a combined total to 50 full and 14 associate members, including banks, building societies and specialist lenders.

IMLA executive director, Kate Davies, commented: “We are delighted to welcome The Cumberland, Saffron and Melton into membership and look forward to hearing more from their teams at our upcoming engagements.

“All three building societies have an enduring reputation in the lending industry, and the association will no doubt benefit from their extensive knowledge.”

Head of intermediary lending, David Robinson, will be Cumberland’s appointed IMLA representative, along with Saffron’s head of mortgage sales, Tony Hall, and Melton’s head of intermediaries, Dan Atkinson.

Robinson suggested that joining IMLA will provide the society with “significant opportunities to collaborate with the industry”, while Hall said that the move can allow Saffron to “influence positive change” in the intermediary market.

Atkinson added: “We are committed to supporting the intermediary market and relish the opportunity to collaborate with the members of IMLA to collectively make a difference in the industry.”
