Hinckley & Rugby appoints Raisin UK chief as new CEO

Hinckley & Rugby Building Society has appointed Steven Amos as its new chief executive, effective from 1 November, subject to the usual regulatory approval.

Amos joins from savings fintech Raisin UK, where he spent seven years and served as CEO for the last four, overseeing significant growth in assets under management and expanding partnerships with banks and building societies. He brings more than 20 years of financial services experience, having previously held senior roles at Together Money, Aldermore Bank, Islamic Bank of Britain and HBOS.

The appointment brings a fintech background into a traditional mutual lender. At Raisin, Amos oversaw growth in the savings marketplace business and partnerships with banks and building societies.

Amos said: “Building societies have an important opportunity to respond to changing customer expectations and the growth of digital competitors, while staying true to what makes them special. I'm looking forward to working with the team and building on what they've achieved.”

He succeeds Barry Carter, who will leave in December to become CEO of StreamBank after two and a half years leading Hinckley & Rugby.

During Carter's tenure, the mutual, a regional building society founded more than 160 years ago, delivered its strongest profit performance since 2008 and reached record savings and mortgage balances by September 2026, with total assets of £900m. His time in charge also saw a rebrand, digital transformation, changes to the Society's operational structure and investment in its risk capabilities and workforce.

Helen McEwan, chair of the board, added: “Steven's experience, values and leadership approach align strongly with who we are as a mutual and what we want to achieve. We believe he is the right person to lead the Society through its next chapter, and I'm confident he'll help us build on our strengths, deliver our strategy and continue doing the right thing for our members and communities.”
