News in brief - 3 June 2024

Dudley Building Society has appointed Simon Dodd as its new head of retail. He joined the firm in April from Coventry Building Society, where he held the position of head of B2B marketing, witnessing growth over his eight years at the firm. Dodd’s career in financial services spans 12 years, with experience in pensions, employee benefits and business finance organisations. His appointment marks the latest in a series of new appointments that the society has made since the start of the year.

Rupert Swetman has been appointed as partnership sales director at Mortgage Advice Bureau (MAB). His promotion is part of the firm’s continued investment into sales strategy. Prior to his promotion, Swetman worked as partnership sales manager at MAB, with his career spanning over 25 years, operating large-scale businesses. In his new role, he will be responsible for building a specialist team of business consultants to support MAB’s strategic partners in their ambitions, business strategy and continued growth objectives. The appointment comes as Swetman appointed Kiah Foster and Ben Leach as partnership managers.

21Finance has completed a mortgage for a broker client, whose commercial and residential property was due to be repossessed. The mixed-use property, which include da plot for a building of nine flats, was due to be repossessed on behalf of a lender who held a first charge of £1.3m against the property. The existing lender had arranged for the property to go to auction, due to receivership, which had in turn reduced its valuation down to £390,000. 21Fianance was able to find a specialist lender to provide finance within 10 business days on a second charge on one property and a first change on another property owned by the client.
